Delta and American CRJ Pilots Accused of Making Animal Noises on Guard Frequency; FAA Investigating

Pilots from Delta Air Lines and American Airlines operating Bombardier CRJ regional jets were recorded making meowing and barking noises on the emergency "guard" frequency near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

A recording shared by CBS News captures the animal noises and an air traffic controller telling the pilots, "You guys need to be professional"; another pilot is heard saying, "This is why you still fly an RJ."

Dennis Tajer, a pilot and Allied Pilots Association spokesperson, told ABC News that the guard frequency is "not entertainment" and that idle humor on that channel "is not received well."

The incident drew scrutiny amid recent fatal accidents, including a LaGuardia ground collision that killed two cockpit crew and the January 2025 Potomac River collision that killed 67 people involving an American Airlines regional jet.
