Mark Webber Steps Back From Oscar Piastri Trackside Role, Coulthard Calls Move Natural

Mark Webber, manager of McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, has stepped back from a trackside support role to concentrate on commercial matters ahead of the 2026 season, David Coulthard, former Formula 1 driver, said on the Up To Speed podcast.

David Coulthard described the change as a "natural development" and said Webber and his wife Ann had helped Oscar Piastri secure a seat at McLaren and support him through his first title challenge.

Coulthard noted McLaren allowed Piastri and team-mate Lando Norris to race freely under the team's 'papaya rules'; Norris won the drivers' title and Piastri finished third behind Max Verstappen.

Coulthard added that managers ultimately cannot drive for their clients in the car, so stepping back from frontline trackside duties can be an expected progression for Mark Webber.
