Ferrari Blames Toyota Traction and Tyre Strategy for Imola WEC Defeat

Ferrari identified Toyota's superior traction and tyre management as the decisive factors that cost Ferrari victory at the World Endurance Championship opener at Imola, where Toyota emerged ahead.

Ferrari matched Toyota for outright pace in clean air at times, but said its 499P LMH's weaker acceleration and rear-tyre behaviour prevented sustained attacks and made overtaking on Imola exceptionally difficult.

Alessandro Pier Guidi, driver of the #51 Ferrari 499P LMH that secured pole and finished second, said the team did all it could, noted Toyota triple-stinted tyres and a virtual safety car that favoured Toyota's strategy.

Ferrari said it will investigate the acceleration shortfall and tyre wear as it seeks consistency in the Hypercar class against Toyota in the WEC season ahead.
