Honda Recalls 440,830 Odyssey Minivans Over Inadvertent Airbag Deployments

Honda is recalling 440,830 Odyssey minivans built for model years 2017–2022 after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Safety Recall Report found side and rear side curtain airbags can inadvertently deploy from strong road impacts due to incorrect Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) ECU deployment parameters.

Honda reported 25 injury claims and 130 warranty claims to the NHTSA, with no deaths; the agency's report covers incidents from January 24, 2017 through April 2, 2026, and Honda estimates about 0.1% of the recalled vehicles are actually affected.

Honda first received notification of an inadvertent deployment in late 2017 and opened an investigation that identified the potential issue in 2021; the NHTSA issued a Preliminary Evaluation request late last year and Honda determined a defect related to motor vehicle safety existed, initiating the recall on April 2, 2026.

Dealers will reprogram or replace SRS ECUs as necessary, owners will receive recall notifications starting May 25, and Honda says Odysseys produced after June 3, 2022 include the corrected SRS ECUs.
