Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll Retires on GT3 Debut at Paul Ricard

Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll made his GT3 debut for Comtoyou Racing in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo at Paul Ricard, but the car retired with 15 minutes remaining and was classified 48th.

Stroll shared the car with former grand prix driver Roberto Merhi and Aston Martin junior Mari Boya; the #18 Aston Martin qualified 15th but Boya dropped outside the top 30 and the car accumulated penalties that left it out of contention.

Despite limited night practice, Lance Stroll recorded the third-best average stint in his phase and set the eighth-fastest lap, though he picked up a track-limits penalty before the team retired the car due to a gear selection issue.

Stroll said he enjoyed driving the Vantage GT3 and wants more GT racing, while the sister Comtoyou Aston Martin driven by Mattia Drudi, Marco Sørensen and Nicki Thiim took the overall win; other active F1 drivers, including Max Verstappen, are also entering GT events this year.
