Jonathan Wheatley has left his role as Audi team principal and Motorsport understands he is set to join Aston Martin, a move former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle described as a "smart move" provided the team stabilises its management.
Audi confirmed on 20 March that Jonathan Wheatley had left with immediate effect for personal reasons, and Wheatley has not publicly confirmed any next appointment.
Martin Brundle spoke on the Sky Sports F1 Show, saying Wheatley's pragmatism and hands-on approach could "glue some things together" at Aston Martin. Brundle warned that Aston Martin's frequent leadership changes have created uncertainty and the team needs to settle its management structure to benefit from a hire like Wheatley.
