FIA Tightens F1 Energy Rules: 350 kW Super Clipping and Lower Qualifying Harvest From Miami

The FIA and Formula 1 agreed a package of energy-management changes to take effect from the Miami Grand Prix, including raising super clipping to 350 kW and cutting qualifying energy harvesting to 7 MJ.

The FIA also set deployment limits, keeping MGU-K at 350 kW in key acceleration zones but limiting it to 250 kW elsewhere and capping race boost at +150 kW, with teams unanimously agreeing and the measures pending World Motor Sport Council approval.

The changes aim to make qualifying more "on the limit" and reduce dangerous closing speeds after driver Oliver Bearman's crash in Japan; McLaren team boss Andrea Stella had previously advocated increasing super clipping during winter testing. Formula 1 expects slightly slower qualifying lap times but a safer, more natural speed profile.
