Ford F-150 Recall: 1.39m 2015–2017 Trucks for 6R80 Transmission Range Sensor Fault

Ford has recalled 1,392,935 F-150 pickup trucks from model years 2015–2017 for a transmission defect that can cause an unexpected downshift from sixth to second gear.

The recall targets the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) inside the 6R80 six-speed automatic; wear and thermal cycling can displace a molded "lead frame" that connects the TRS and transmission output speed sensor to the shift solenoids.

When the TRS sends incorrect signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the PCM may command a sudden downshift or erratic gear changes, risking transmission damage, rear-wheel lockup, or a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration previously investigated complaints, and this action adds to more than 19 million Ford vehicles recalled over the past year, including a recent 4.3 million-unit trailer-control software recall.
