Ford Shifts on Chinese EVs as Jim Farley Calls for Overseas Partnerships and U.S. Job Protections

Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, said Ford will expand partnerships with Chinese automakers outside the U.S. and stressed the need for a plan to protect American jobs before Chinese EV imports arrive.

Farley softened his earlier stance after saying days earlier on Fox News that Chinese automakers would be "devastating" for U.S. manufacturing, and he said Ford must partner abroad because Chinese companies lead in tech, cost and speed.

Farley added that the U.S. and the Big Three need strategies to safeguard jobs while allowing competition, and he pointed to other markets that permit Chinese cars as examples. The comments come amid U.S. tariffs on Chinese vehicles and bans on Chinese connected-vehicle software.
