Ford’s Canceled Three-Row EV SUV Now Serving as Research Vehicle

Ford confirmed the three-row "bullet train" electric SUV it canceled in August 2024 is now a research and development vehicle informing the company’s next-generation electric vehicles.

Ford CEO Jim Farley previously described the concept as a 2025 three-row EV with about 350 miles of range and extreme aerodynamic efficiency. The program was canceled in August 2024 along with other pure-electric projects.

Doug Field, now-retired Ford EV boss, posted the SUV rendering to LinkedIn as his banner image, and Ford shared the image and its Aspen Ideas Festival description. That description mentioned a seven-passenger interior, 350+ miles or a 550-mile extended range, and a claim of 100 miles of charge in six minutes.

Ford says it has not abandoned battery-electric vehicles and is developing a small electric pickup targeted at a $30,000 price point if it can control costs, and that the pickup’s platform will spawn several more affordable EVs.
