Gas Tops $4 as GM Idles Factory Zero and U.S. Signals Block on Chinese EVs via Canada

U.S. average gasoline prices topped $4 per gallon as General Motors idled its Factory Zero EV plant and the U.S. said it would block Chinese EVs entering via Canada.

AAA reported the national average for regular at $4.018, mid-grade $4.541 and premium $4.904 as crude oil topped $102 per barrel, with prices rising more than $1 since last month.

General Motors said Factory Zero, which makes the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ, will pause production through April 13 after downtime that began March 16, affecting about 1,300 workers.

Pete Hoekstra, U.S. ambassador to Canada, said the administration will not allow Chinese-built EVs routed through Canada to enter the U.S.; the edition also mentioned a NHTSA investigation into Nissan.
