Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman Cleared to Return to NASCAR Cup at Bristol After Vertigo

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, will return to the NASCAR Cup Series at Bristol after a five-week medical leave prompted by a sudden bout of vertigo at Circuit of the Americas.

Bowman abandoned the Texas race in the closing laps and Hendrick Motorsports Sim driver Myatt Snider substituted in the No. 48 during Bowman’s absence. Bowman received medical clearance after reproducing the conditions that caused his symptoms at the Hendrick-owned 10 Tenths Motor Club and in the team simulator.

Jeff Andrews, Hendrick Motorsports president, said the team followed medical guidelines and fully supported Bowman’s return during a press conference. Alex Bowman thanked Hendrick Motorsports, Ally and Chevrolet, saying the team often gave him "more grace than he deserves" and that he is ready for the next 19 weeks.
