Martin Brundle: Lost 1997 Jordan F1 Seat Revealed at Birmingham Car Show

Former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle said he found out he had lost his 1997 Jordan race seat when team owner Eddie Jordan announced drivers Ralf Schumacher and Giancarlo Fisichella at the Racing Car Show in Birmingham.

Brundle revealed this during an interview on Sky Sports F1 with presenter Natalie Pinkham and said he had expected to drive for Eddie Jordan in 1997; he added that he finished fifth in his final F1 race at Japan 1996, matching his debut result.

Martin Brundle made his F1 debut with Tyrrell at the 1984 Brazilian Grand Prix and later drove for Zakspeed, Brabham, Benetton, Ligier, McLaren and Jordan before leaving Formula 1 at the end of 1996.

Brundle described learning about the lineup as a "pretty harsh" way to find out and said Eddie Jordan's choice of two younger drivers made sense given his assessment that he was at the "end of my shelf life."
