Oscar Piastri, McLaren Formula 1 driver, said his mindset shifted in 2025 as he and McLaren team-mate Lando Norris contested the championship.
In his third F1 season Piastri finished third overall in 2025 with seven wins and nine podiums, up from fourth in 2024 with two wins and six podiums. In an interview with Quad Lock he said the step from 2024 to 2025 was larger than expected and that he felt capable of winning most weekends when he matched his potential.
Piastri, 25, has had a difficult start to 2026 and sits sixth in the standings with 21 points. He failed to start the Australian Grand Prix after a reconnaissance-lap crash and missed the Chinese Grand Prix with an electrical fault, then finished second at the Japanese Grand Prix and sixth in the Chinese sprint.
Piastri said the progress in 2025 gave him confidence, but the early 2026 setbacks have disrupted the momentum he built with McLaren.
