Nissan confirmed in Japan that the new Xterra will be offered with a V6 and a V6 hybrid when it arrives in 2028.
Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan North America Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer, told The Drive that customers prefer the V6 for its driving personality and that the V6 will remain in the D-segment, including the Pathfinder.
Pandikuthira indicated a V6 could be added later to the Infiniti QX65 and the three-row QX60, and he suggested the Murano could be considered for a V6 in the future.
With rivals such as the Toyota 4Runner and many Ford Bronco trims using turbo-fours, Nissan says the Xterra’s V6 option could appeal to buyers seeking a non-electrified off-roader.
