Volkswagen has unveiled a major update to its ID 3 electric hatchback, renaming it the ID 3 Neo and adding fresh exterior styling, larger batteries and a completely revamped interior with physical controls.
The ID 3 Neo, arriving in July, is the second facelift after a 2023 update and is intended to address usability and software issues from Volkswagen's first wave of bespoke EVs, company boss Thomas Schäfer said.
Volkswagen technology chief Kai Grünitz described the cabin as the "biggest jump forward", noting higher-quality materials and an array of physical buttons including a volume knob; the interior will be shared with forthcoming ID Polo and ID Cross models.
Volkswagen is also moving away from numeric names for its EV lineup, though the company said the ID 3 will keep its number because of brand equity and will adopt the Neo suffix to signal a more extensive change.
