Nissan to Trim Lineup, Push AI and E-Power Hybrids as Xterra Returns for 2029

Nissan will cut its global model lineup from 61 to 45, prioritize AI-defined vehicles and expand hybrid powertrains such as e-Power in the U.S., while targeting growth in China, Japan and the United States.

Nissan Americas chairman Christian Meunier said the company saw a "significant year-over-year increase in U.S. retail share" at a global media event, and Nissan outlined plans to integrate AI into driver-assist systems. Nissan said it aims for 90 percent of its lineup to feature AI Drive and will introduce next‑gen ProPilot on the Elgrand by the end of 2027.

Nissan confirmed e-Power will debut in the U.S. on the 2027 Rogue and it is developing a new V‑6 and hybrid for a revived Xterra due as a 2029 model. Infiniti will add a hybrid compact SUV and a new sports sedan by late 2028, and Nissan said it will be cautious on full EV investments after canceling the Ariya and two planned U.S. EV sedans.
