Citroën 2CV Readied for Three-Hour Drive to 24 Hours of Lemons After Repairs

A Citroën 2CV rescued by Stephen Walter Gossin is being prepared for a roughly three-hour drive to the upcoming 24 Hours of Lemons at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. The car is intended as a big maiden voyage following restoration work.

Preparations included replacing a failing electromechanical voltage regulator with a solid-state unit, correcting the battery mounting and headlight adjuster, changing transmission oil, fitting a torn driver-side CV boot, and reinstalling fenders and side-filler valance panels. These tasks were completed to make the car roadworthy for backroad travel.

The restoration required API GL-4 transmission oil because GL-5 formulations can harm yellow metals such as brass synchronizers; locating GL-4 locally proved difficult but a suitable single-weight GL-4 was sourced. The team notes they may switch to a multi-grade oil later.

The owner aims to make the Citroën 2CV a daily driver despite its 29 horsepower, and the new regulator reduced charging voltage from about 18V to roughly 14.8V.
